So far so good. Of course, I'm completely in the honeymoon phase. I got to the gym twice for a 30 minute cardio session and a 35 minute weight session (not much time to sit around in that one), and I did a few hours of yard work and a family hike for a few hours for my other exercise. Last, I played flag football on Memorial Day morning which helped a lot.
I did manage to weigh myself at the gym early in the week and I came in at a tidy 210 lbs. I weighed again this morning and came in at the same weight. I don't read too much into it really...I could be retaining water, etc. I feel great and my gut is done a little so the scale doesn't matter as much to me. Here's my "fat picture" which I had Heather take on Sunday night. I put the jester hat on because...well, you just can't take yourself too seriously when taking a fat picture of yourself. This picture on a public website alone is enough to motivate me to lose weight (or shave one of the two).
Most tempting moment of the week? To be honest, not much temptation so far. I ate like such a pig prior to doing this that my body was just in fat, cholesterol, and sugar over load. I'm sure the detoxification was just heavenly. It won't be until next week that I'll look at a donut and want to poke myself in the eye repeatedly with a sharp object for every having committed to do this. We did do a Memorial Day barbecue with some friends, and their were plently of "land mines" to avoid, but I just brought my own food and was fine.
It feels good to be in control. I had a work dinner (normally these are gorge-fests) and I ate a petite, broiled fillet mignon, a caesar salad, and a whole wheat role. It was very, very satisfying. Heather and I went out on Friday (another typical gorge-fest) and I had half a healthy sub and a diet drink. It was great. When I eat right, I remember that good food actually tastes pretty dang good once you get the bad stuff out of your system. For breakfast I had a treat...wholewheat, low fat waffles. Instead of syrup, I used some of Kian's all natural baby food. It was pretty dang good. For dessert tonight I had a cup of Kix cereal. Just sweet enough to keep the munchies away.
My brother-in-law Brett Holman uses a free site called http://www.sparkpeople.com/ in order to help him track his food, exercise, etc. Pretty cool site for free. They had a little essay on there that was cheesy, but true none-the-less. It said to look at the changes we're all trying to make as "lifestyle changes" instead of a "diet". The difference being that diets and the weight loss that accompany them are ephemeral, where lifestyle changes and their benefits stick. I couldn't agree more; this weight loss needs to stick, so I've got 90 days to make the permanent changes I need to keep this going.
Only 83 more days to go! :)

You had a great week, Spence. Now the only thing I'm preparing you for is Kian's birthday party on Sunday. It will be full of cupcakes and icecream. Shall we make you a cup of lowfat sugar-free pudding? Or that's still off limits. We can leave it up to public opinion.
I think sugar-free pudding is fine. But, that's just my opinion. You are an inspiration, Spence! Thanks for posting.
